On May 30, 2025, two major conferences were held in Hong Kong and Singapore, two major cities in Asia. One was the “Shangri La Dialogue”, a conference organized by the United States and its supporting countries, the main purpose of which was to focus on how to stop China’s growing dominance around the world. A vivid example of this was the statement made by United States Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth at the May 31 conference, explaining in detail the “Indo-Pacific” strategy and discussing issues such as rebuilding American deterrence in the “Indo-Pacific region” to be aware of and prepare for the so-called “China threat.”
This shows that America is very suspicious of China. It wants to revive its dominance and that of its group. It also wants the war to spread to Asian countries like Ukraine and Russia. It is provoking the Philippines, Japan, and Taiwan and wants its arms trade to expand by showing the fear and anxiety of the same war.
On the other hand, in Hong Kong, with the aim of establishing an International Mediation Headquarters and signing a related convention, a ceremony was held to establish a convention on mediation, with the aim of ensuring that disputes and misunderstandings between nations around the world can be resolved quickly and that even major problems can be resolved if this happens. Observers from about 80 countries attended the conference, and 33 of its representative countries signed and became its founding members.
However, Nepal could not establish itself as a founding member state. However, it would be wise for Nepal to join this organization as soon as possible in the coming days. Because it is well known that Nepal has made strong contributions to peacekeeping in the United Nations as well.
The misunderstandings and mistrust between the various member states of the United Nations and the steps taken by the United Nations to resolve them have been disappointing, and the United Nations has been accused of being the sole preserve of the United States and its supporting countries at various times. In this context, this organization, which includes all Asian, African, and Middle Eastern countries and is believed to have earned the trust of all, is considered very important in itself, and its headquarters in Hong Kong have become even more justified. Because Hong Kong is an internationally well-equipped, business city suitable for all nations, as well as a city with a mature legal system. It has also been widely supported by the international community to establish it as an international legal and dispute resolution service centre in the Asia-Pacific region.
Possible future conflicts in the world. Its responsibilities, and importance:
At present, in every corner of the world, there is conflict and war in some form or another, a conflict of ideas and principles, a conflict of faith and religion, a conflict between the poor and the rich, and between small and large powerful nations. There is a need now for a force that can mediate all these things without discrimination.
The International Organization for Mediation (IO Med) will responsibly address the various spheres of disputes or disagreements, whether between nations or between states or citizens of other countries or between international private institutions and draw up a suitable framework for their peaceful resolution.
To this end, in 2022, China proposed the establishment of IO Med together with its neighbouring countries and like-minded countries and decided to establish a multilateral intergovernmental international arbitration institution with the aim of providing friendly, flexible, and convenient arbitration services for the peaceful resolution of various international disputes. As a result, its office was established in Hong Kong on February 16, 2023. It met again in October 2024, and the relevant convention was signed and completed on May 30, 2025. Which was led by Mr. Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, and Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The establishment of the IOMed will prove to be a milestone in the development of international law and its enforcement in a systematic, institutionalized, and procedural framework that addresses the arbitration provisions enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations.
This is also a major achievement for China, which has the main goal of assuming the responsibility of global governance and establishing world peace. It also creates a platform for the peaceful resolution of international disputes under a more open, impartial, and inclusive concept. Therefore, it is also an important organization for Asia. In fact, it is also a complementary organization to the United Nations.
It is clear that the recent conflict between India and Pakistan and the war that started was almost stopped due to mediation. The terrible war between the two nuclear powers was averted by this mediation. Although mediation was directly rejected, it is clear that this terrible war was stopped in the middle due to continuous dialogue, mediation and discussion between China, Russia and the United States for about a week. This was also a kind of mediation. Remember that the method of mediation is the art of satisfying both sides by balancing the elements of direct and indirect, various profits and losses, ego and self-satisfaction. This is why the war between India and Pakistan was STOPPED!
Was mediation between Russia and Ukraine possible an early stage?
Yes, if an environment for mediation had been created between Russia and Ukraine in a timely manner, this plight and the cruel and disgusting form of humanity would not have emerged today. The desire of the US and its supported Western countries to identify their “arms business rival” Russia in any way, and to use this opportunity to sell their rotten weapons at a good price and to expand the arms market around the world by showing fear of Russia, as well as Russia’s inability and arrogance to be challenged by a small country like Ukraine, the desire of the newly elected President of Ukraine, Zelensky, to be called a great leader in history and a hero, and the instigation of various powerful countries: due to these and other various reasons, the world community failed to stop the war between Russia and Ukraine in time.
The essence and concept of mediation is the art of making all these egos, complacency, profit and loss and the practical far-reaching effects of this, etc., fully aware of them ahead of time, and forcing all parties to exercise restraint and patience, to treat each other with respect and equality, and to reach an agreement based on this. But despite the ample time of about 2 months, the world nations were unable to utilize this time and currently the war between Ukraine and Russia is affecting not only those two countries, but the entire world.
Can this IOMed organization bring peace to the world?
Currently, 33 countries in the world have signed the agreement as founding members, while 80 countries have participated as observers. It is expected that the number of member countries will increase significantly in the future.
In fact, its main guiding country is China. China wants to expand its relations with the world under the One Belt One Road policy and is working hand in hand with the world with an open heart under the Belt and Road slogan, not only will China develop, but it will also develop the world together and create a world of peace and happiness.
In the context of the competition, ego and conflict between countries around the world to be the greatest, China is the only country that most countries in the world can trust.
China wants to trade, not war. China wants to develop itself and at the same time all the countries of the world want to develop and play a complementary role. If China guarantees equality and advocates equal sovereignty for small and large countries as it does now, then all the countries of the world that join hands with China will be united and in such a situation, this International Organization for Mediation will be completely successful in achieving its objective.
When China takes steps for the sake of justice and equality, or steps forward to mediate, all nations will support it. The world, at least for now, wants the friendship and guardianship of a powerful nation like China, which advocates “equal sovereignty.” One can certainly hope that this IOMed organization will succeed in this auspicious task.
Although Nepal is a small and underdeveloped country neighboring China, it has its own characteristics and has been able to gain complete trust in peacekeeping missions deployed by the United Nations in the world.
Nepal is the fourth largest contributor of troops and police to peacekeeping among the 193 member states of the United Nations.
Nepal should also be able to show its strong presence not only as an observer but also as a member of this organization. If this happens, Nepal will definitely be able to make a special contribution to this organization. In this way, Nepal and China were inseparable friends, now by joining this Mediation Organization (IO Med), our neighbouring country China and its other member countries can move forward shoulder to shoulder for world peace and harmony, and the vision of maintaining peace and order throughout the world can be realized!
